The Paper Chain Project.
By: gravityhappens
This is sort of a follow on from the butterfly project. The butterfly project is amazing for a short-term distraction, but sometimes when you’re recovering you need a little more. The paper chain project helps you to see your achievements over time - to see how your recovery is progressing and to see you grow over time. It has really helped me :)
Rules:
1. for every day you go without self harming or purging, add a colourful link to the paper chain2. If you relapse, just add a white link to to the chain and carry on the chain without any disruption3. Over time the paper chain will grow in length4. And you can see your progress, and see that even if you do relapse, the are still days you go without hurting yourself. The colourful links.5. Over time and through your recovery watch the amount of coloured links begin to increase, and the amount of white links begin to decrease.6. If you feel like hurting yourself, look at the paper chain and realise just how far you’ve made it, and realise that if you’ve resisted before you can do it again :)

I LOVE THIS OMFG.

THIS. THIS IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT. EVERYONE DO THIS INSTEAD!
sorry I got really excited because although the idea behind the butterfly project is a good on, int practice it’s pretty negative.

this is helpful not only for self injury but also with eating disorders. it could be a day without bingeing, a day without purging, a day following a healthy meal plan, whatever you’d like that would be helpful

Story of my life. But it’s better than giving up! And if I can do it then so can you!!

NEDA Week Day 6:
“Fork” by EmiLeigh
Our wonderful photographer is sleeping, but she asked me to make sure to upload the photo for today, so here it is. Her inspiring words won’t accompany the photo, but I’ll try my best to give some hopeful words.
If someone doesn’t know much about eating disorders, they would assume that it is as easy as eating or not eating. “Just eat” is a common choice of words among those who haven’t taken the time to try and understand. It is so much harder than that, though. A lot of times, there is a real anxiety associated with eating. There is a very real battle going on in the mind. And reducing that battle to two words that oversimplify the fight doesn’t do anything but break down communication.
I know this is not an easy battle, that sometimes eating can seem as difficult as climbing Mount Everest. But I know it is possible for you to climb that mountain. People don’t climb that mountain overnight. It’s a process. And you won’t get better overnight. But you can get better. Recovery is possible. Don’t give up on yourself. You are capable. This is possible. The fight is hard, but it can be won. You can win this and you can be free.
